• From Srinagar: To reach Gulmarg from Srinagar via road, the major route is Srinagar-Tangmarg Road( NH D1 or NH701). Some scenic towns are present on this route including Tangmarg. It may be a bit congested during peak season but starting the drive early can spare you the upcoming traffic later in the day. 
• From Jammu: Jammu-Srinagar Highway (NH44) is the popular route if the starting point of the road trip is Jammu. The distance between Jammu to Srinagar is about 270 kilometres. As you reach Srinagar in 7-8 hours, head towards Gulmarg via the Srinagar-Tangmarg Road. 

Travel Tips to Reach Gulmarg

• Weather conditions: before getting behind the wheels, check the prevailing weather forecast and road conditions. In winters, routes often face temporary closure due to heavy snowfall. 
• Vehicle Preparation: Prepare your vehicle to hit the roads in winter. Get it newly serviced and carry all the documents. Carry a small puncture-repairing kit and some chain tires in case you need it. 

Duration and Road Conditions:

• From Srinagar: Starting from Srinagar, it would take about 2-3 hours to reach Gulmarg. The route via Srinagar-Tangmarg Road is in a good condition, well-maintained by BRO. 
• From Jammu: If the road travel starts from Jammu, the total duration to reach Gulmarg would be 7-8 hours via Jammu-Srinagar Highway (NH44). One of the longest highways in India, it is maintained by different authorities including National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). 

How to Reach Gulmarg for Skiing by Train

Nearest Railway Station: Udhampur Railway Station (UHP), Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir. 

Connection to Gulmarg: 

• By Taxi or Bus: Once you have arrived at Udhampur Railway Station, start the road journey of about 200 kilometres to reach Srinagar in 5-6 hours via Srinagar-Udhampur Highway(NH44). You can either book a taxi or take a bus operating between the two cities. From Srinagar, proceed to Gulmarg via road. 
• Train Services: Scheduled trains are available from major cities to Udhampur. Since Gulmarg doesn’t have an operating railhead as of now, be ready for a intercity transfer from Udhampur via road.
