The best way to travel from Hyderabad to Gulmarg is to fly to Srinagar and then take a cab to Gulmarg. If you want to save on airfares, there is now another useful option: fly or travel to Jammu, take the Jammu Srinagar Vande Bharat, and then continue by road. For most people, though, the direct Hyderabad to Srinagar flight is still the easiest choice.
Last checked: 20 August 2026. Flight fares and train timings can change, so check them again before booking.

Hyderabad to Gulmarg distance and travel time
There is no airport or railway station in Gulmarg. Srinagar is the main air gateway, while Jammu is useful if you want to include the new train service. If you want to compare all the nearby transport points first, check this guide to the nearest airport and railway station to Gulmarg. The road distance from Srinagar to Gulmarg is about 51 to 60 km, depending on the route and point of measurement. The drive usually takes around 1.5 to 2 hours.
So, when you search for the Hyderabad to Gulmarg distance, be careful with the number you see. Hyderabad to Srinagar is a long flight journey of roughly 1,900 km, but that is not the same as road distance. After landing, you still have the final road trip to Gulmarg.
For a normal holiday, I would not plan the whole trip by road. Hyderabad is simply too far from Kashmir for that to be a sensible use of time. If your aim is skiing, snow or a few quiet days in the mountains, spend your travel time wisely and fly.
Hyderabad to Gulmarg travel options at a glance
There are four practical ways to plan this journey. The right one depends on whether you care most about speed, cost or the journey itself.
Route | Approx. travel time | Best for |
Hyderabad → Srinagar flight → Gulmarg | 5 to 7 hrs plus airport time | Most travellers |
Hyderabad → Srinagar connecting flight → Gulmarg | 7 to 10+ hrs | Lower fares or better timings |
Hyderabad → Jammu → Vande Bharat → Srinagar → Gulmarg | Longer and depends on the first leg | Rail fans and budget planning |
Hyderabad → Gulmarg by road | Several days | Road-trip lovers |
The direct flight route wins for most people. The Jammu route is worth knowing because the rail link is now much better than it was a year ago.
Best Hyderabad to Gulmarg route
Hyderabad Airport → Srinagar Airport → Tangmarg → Gulmarg
Srinagar Airport is the nearest airport to Gulmarg. The Directorate of Tourism Kashmir puts the distance at about 54 km, while the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering gives about 56 km and around two hours by road. Once you land, the Srinagar to Gulmarg route is the key road leg of your trip.
After leaving Srinagar, your cab heads towards Tangmarg. The last stretch from Tangmarg to Gulmarg is only around 12 km, but winter can make this short drive slow. Snow chains or a suitable vehicle may be needed when snowfall is heavy.
This is one place where I would not try to save a few hundred rupees by taking a risky transfer. If you land in winter with warm clothes, bags and ski gear, you want a driver who knows the mountain road. The Gulmarg road guide is useful if you want to understand this final mountain stretch before you travel.
Hyderabad to Srinagar flights
A direct flight is the first option I would check. Current August 2026 schedules show IndiGo operating non-stop flights from Hyderabad to Srinagar around five times a week. The flight time is about three hours. Recent August fare listings show one-way prices around ₹9,000 to ₹11,000 on some dates. Direct flights can cost more, with one recent listing showing a fare above ₹13,000. These are only examples, not fixed fares. Prices can change from one day to the next.
A direct flight is especially useful if you are travelling with children, older family members or ski bags. You get off the plane once and then focus on the road journey to Gulmarg. If the direct flight is too costly, check one-stop flights as well. Delhi and other major cities can work as connection points. Just compare the total journey time, not only the ticket price.
Would you save ₹1,500 if the cheaper ticket adds five hours to your day? For a short Gulmarg trip, I probably would not.
A new option: Hyderabad to Jammu, then Vande Bharat to Srinagar
This is the biggest change to the route in 2026. The Jammu Srinagar Vande Bharat was extended to Jammu Tawi in April 2026. Regular service on the extended route began on 2 May 2026. The train has 20 coaches and connects Jammu Tawi with Srinagar in about 4 hours 50 minutes.
The service runs six days a week, with Tuesday as the weekly off day according to the published schedule. One morning service leaves Jammu Tawi at 6:20 AM and reaches Srinagar at 11:10 AM. The return service leaves Srinagar at 2:00 PM. Check the live railway schedule before making your plan because timings can change.
This gives you a new route:
Hyderabad → Jammu → Vande Bharat → Srinagar → Gulmarg
But there is a catch. You still need to reach Jammu from Hyderabad. If the Hyderabad to Jammu flight is expensive or has a poor connection, the whole plan may take longer than flying straight to Srinagar. The train is therefore not automatically the cheapest or fastest route. It is an excellent alternative when you find a good Hyderabad to Jammu fare or already plan to travel through Jammu.
And there is another reason to choose it. The Jammu Srinagar rail journey is part of the trip itself. You get to see the mountain route instead of sitting in another airport lounge.
How to reach Gulmarg from Srinagar Airport
Once you land at Srinagar Airport, a private cab is the easiest choice. The road journey normally takes around two hours, but winter weather can add time. If your flight lands late, avoid making a very tight hotel check-in plan. Snow, traffic or road restrictions can slow the final stretch. Give yourself some breathing room.
During winter, the Tangmarg section needs extra care. The Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering notes that vehicles may need snow chains or a strong 4×4 vehicle for the final climb when conditions are poor. For a family trip, I would pre-book the cab. It is easier to land, collect your bags and meet your driver than start searching for transport after a long flight.
How much baggage can you carry for a Gulmarg trip?
This matters more than many travellers expect. Winter jackets, boots and ski clothes take up space very quickly. For example, IndiGo currently allows 15 kg of checked baggage on domestic flights, along with one cabin bag of up to 7 kg. Sports and skiing equipment is treated as special baggage and can attract an extra fee. So, do not assume your skis will travel free just because you have checked baggage included. If you plan to carry your own skis or snowboard, check the airline’s latest sports-equipment rules before booking.
For most first-time visitors, renting ski gear in Gulmarg is simpler. You can travel lighter and avoid carrying a long ski bag through two airports and a mountain taxi.
When is the best time to travel to Gulmarg?
If your main goal is skiing, plan for winter. The broad ski season is December to March, but snow can vary from year to year. Late January and February are generally the stronger months for reliable snow, while early December can be less certain. If skiing is your main goal, it is worth checking the Gulmarg skiing season before fixing your flights.
For a first ski trip, I would lean towards late January or February if your dates are flexible. You are more likely to find a good snow base, and the whole trip feels more like the Gulmarg winter you have imagined. You can also check the Gulmarg snowfall season before choosing your dates.
December can still be beautiful, especially around Christmas and New Year. But those dates are busy and often cost more. If skiing is your main reason for going, do not choose dates only because the calendar looks festive.
Which Hyderabad to Gulmarg route should you choose?
The answer becomes simple once you decide what matters most.
- Want the fastest and easiest trip? Fly Hyderabad to Srinagar, then take a cab.
- Want to reduce flight cost? Compare direct and one-stop flights.
- Want to include a train journey? Travel to Jammu and take the Vande Bharat to Srinagar.
- Travelling with family? Choose the direct flight and pre-book the cab.
- Taking your own ski gear? Check baggage and sports-equipment charges first.
- Travelling in heavy snow? Keep extra time for the Tangmarg to Gulmarg road.

Hyderabad to Gulmarg trip: the practical plan
For most travellers, I would keep the plan very simple. Take a direct Hyderabad to Srinagar flight when the fare is reasonable. Arrange your Srinagar to Gulmarg cab before you fly, and avoid booking a tight schedule on your arrival day.
If the flight price looks too high, check the Jammu option. The new Vande Bharat has made the Jammu to Srinagar leg far more useful for travellers in 2026. It may not beat a direct flight on time, but it gives you a real second route into the Valley.
If you are visiting mainly for skiing, also set aside money for the activity itself. A useful Gulmarg skiing price guide can help you work out the wider trip budget before you book your flights.
Most importantly, judge the trip by the total journey, not one ticket price. A cheap flight, long layover and late-night cab may look good on a booking screen, but it can leave you tired before you even see Gulmarg’s snow. So, if you are looking at the map from Hyderabad and wondering which route makes the most sense, ask yourself one thing: do you want to reach Gulmarg quickly, or do you want the journey to become part of the Kashmir experience?
